John Mateyko

Augustana College is proud to count John Mateyko, APMA®, WMCP™, RICP® among its prominent alumni. Graduating with the Class of '98, John embarked on a distinguished career in the finance sector with his start at Dean Witter in New York City in 1999. Since then, his expertise as a Financial Advisor has benefited several of America's top financial institutions such as Atlas Securities, US Bancorp, Chase, and Fifth Third Securities. In 2010, John boldly stepped into the world of entrepreneurship by founding IDEX Financial, based in the prestigious Zurich Towers, Schaumburg, IL. The company experienced notable growth in 2018, extending its reach to Atlanta, Georgia, through the acquisition of a financial planning practice. John is currently enhancing his credentials by pursuing a CIMA certification from the esteemed Yale School of Management. He also boasts of the RICP® and the WMCP™ titles from the American College of Financial Planning, and the APMA® from the College For Financial Planning. John calls the enchanting community of Serenbe, rural Georgia home. Featured on the Today Show, Serenbe is where John established the Serenbe Athletic Association in 2021, holding the position of Commissioner for the co-ed Chicago-style Softball and Kickball leagues. He also coached youth basketball in Schiller Park, IL (2008-2013), and more recently, youth sports in Serenbe (2020-2021). John's love for the arts is palpable. He had the distinct pleasure of being a part-time stand-in for Christian Bale on the sets of Batman Begins (‘05) and Public Enemies (‘09). John's fondness for theatre inspired him to form the SMZ Community Theater Group, a fundraising venture for Acton Academy in Serenbe, which has so far successfully raised $451,000. Under his direction, the theatre group produced The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge ('21) and is gearing up for It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play (Dec '23). On a personal note, John proposed to his beloved wife Slavyana in the romantic backdrop of Germany's Neuschwanstein Castle. Their honeymoon took them to the breathtaking Amalfi Coast, followed by a babymoon in Rome and Lake Como. Their son Sasha now spends his summers at TASIS camp in Lugano. John is also an adventure enthusiast. His outdoor escapades range from scuba diving in the Philippines, Hawaii, Mexico, Costa Rica, Italy, Portugal, and even the whale shark exhibit at the Georgia Aquarium. He also triumphed in the Midwinters San Francisco Bay Race as part of the foredeck crew on the Beneteau 50 and has experienced the thrill of biking down the Haleakala volcano in Maui.
